Funeral Services for Mrs. Daisy Morman Wooden
Fort Valley,Georgia -&Daisy Morman Wooden was born into the family of R.C. and Hazel Morman of Vidalia, GA on February 8, 1936. She departed this life on September 18, 2015 at the Church Home Rehabilitation & Healthcare, LLC in Peach County. After graduating from Dickerson High School, Vidalia, GA in 1954, she moved to New York City and served as a Nurses' Aide at the Bronx Hospital. Daisy met her husband, Aytch Wooden in Hartford, CT on May 1, 1955. They married December 23, 1955 and moved to Minneapolis, MN where Daisy was employed as a Nurses' Aide at the Mayo Clinic, while Aytch was enrolled at the University of Minnesota. Upon returning to Fort Valley, three children were born, Wayne, Lisa and Winston.
Daisy received her Bachelor and Masters degrees from Fort Valley State in Elementary Education in 1960 and 1970. In September, 1974 she attended the University of TN at Knoxville where she received her Media Specialist Certification.
Daisy joined Soloman Tabernacle Baptist Church in Vidalia at an early age before affiliating with Southern Baptist Church in New York. She immediately joined Trinity Baptist Church when she and Aytch relocated to Ft. Valley. However, after their first child was born, she felt a need to move her membership to St. Peter A.M.E. Church where Aytch was already a member. Daisy was a committed Christian, loyal and hard-working church member and became very active in Sunday School, St. Peter Mass Choir, Stewardess Board, Lay Organization, Missionary Society and served two years on the Steward Board. Daisy was also a devoted sorority member. She pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. while at Fort Valley State College.
Daisy's experiences included serving on the Peach County Habitat for Humanities Board, working with the Peach County Headstart Program, served as Elementary Teacher in Houston County, Librarian at Fort Valley State College and Media Specialist with Macon County Board of Education, Montezuma, Georgia. Daisy retired June 4, 1992 after 30 years of service.
She is preceded in death by her parents, R.C. & Hazel Morman; one brother, Gaston McLendon, and one sister, Vernell Morman Howell.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Aytch Wooden; her children, A. Wayne (Kimberly) Wooden of Houston, TX., Lisa Wooden Moore, Katy, TX and Winston (Lois) Wooden, Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Stephen (Mary) Wooden, Houston, TX, Lauren E. Moore, Katy, TX, Kylie C. and Winston Bryce Wooden, Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Reba M. Smalley Key, East Bridgewater, MA and Barbara Morman (Monroe) Fuller of Severn, MD, one brother Ray (Shirley) Morman, Kathleen, GA; a great aunt, Willa Fern Wooden, Hartford, CT; sisters-in-law, Maurice Mann and Katheryn B. Calloway, Bloomfield, CT; twenty-eight nieces and nephews; a host of relatives and friends.
