Bruce "Bubba" Pickens
October 1, 1932 – October 31, 2016
Mr. Willie Bruce "Bubba" Pickens, took his journey from earth to his heavenly home on October 31, 2016.& The son of the late Willie Lee and Willie Mae Pickens was born October 1, 1932 in Vienna GA. After the death of his mother, he was raised by his father and stepmother Beatrice Pickens.
His parents, four siblings, Fred Pickens, Jack Pickens, Louise Pickens, Alice Ball, aformer spouse Eldotha Holmes, a special niece, Diane McGowan Carter, all precedes him in death.
He was a product of both the Dooly and Crisp County Public School Systems. Following graduation from Gillespie he was drafted into the US Army and served in the Korean War. Upon completion of his military service, he attended Morris Brown College, Fort Valley State College and the University of Georgia. He was employed with the Crisp County Board of Education for 40 years. He ended his career as a Truant Officer for the Crisp County Board of Education. Mr. Pickens was also employed by the Crisp County Board of Commissioner's Recreation Department where he ran the community pool for several years; which was subsequently named in his honor.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and loving wife, Geraldine Jones Pickens; his children, Mariam Putman, Atlanta, GA, Barbara Rice, Albany, GA, Ricardo Pickens (Danette), Frederick, MD, Pamela Pickens, Ashburn, GA, Monica Pickens, Waldorf, MD; grandchildren, Rick Johnson (Kissy), Michael Johnson, Ayo Green, Clarke Pickens, Ciera Pickens, Maya Pickens, Nick Putman, Maynard Pickens, Serella Pickens, Nia Putman, Julian Pickens, and sister Annie Mae Felder, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and his favorite pup "Faith". He will be remembered by many who loved and adored him.
THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS AT 10:00 AM, ONE HOUR PRIOR TO THE SERVICE AT AS CLARK AUDITORIUM
