Derrick Dion Canty, was born to the parentage of the late Dr. George Canty, Jr, and D'Lois P. Canty in Fort Valley, Georgia on October 31, 1964.& At an early age he accepted Christ and joined St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Fort Valley, Georgia, where he served as an Acolyte as well as in other church activities.

He was educated in the Peach County School System and was a 1982 graduate of Peach County High School. He attended Savannah State University and Fort Valley State University. A Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also a Mason of the Powersville Lodge.

He leave behind to cherish his memories a loving mother, D'Lois P. Canty - Fort Valley, GA. brother, George Canty, III (Bernice) Decatur, GA.; sister, Cheryl Aaron (Decius) - Macon, GA.; nieces, Angela Williams Wilkerson (Abner) - Atlanta, GA., Shatara M. Canty - Kennesaw, GA., Chelsea S. Aaron - Great Lakes, IL.; a host of other family and friends including a special friend, China. He was the son on the late Dr. George Canty,Jr., Professor of Chemistry and Department Head at Fort Valley State University.

Derrick was an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending time with family and friends; he had a passion for people and was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. Rick loved to cook.
