Funeral Services for Mrs. Dorothy Felton McDouglad


Fort Valley, GA- Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy McDougald will be held on Monday, December 21, 2015 at 11:00 am in Sanctuary of the St. James CME Church in Marshallville, Georgia. &Burial will follow in the Colonel Felton Cemetery in Marshallvile.


Mrs. Dorothy Felton McDougald, affectionately known as "Aunt Dotty" to her family and friends, was born in Marshallville, Georgia on June 16, 1919 to the union of the late Eugene Madison Felton and Caura McClendon Felton. On Friday morning Dec. 11th 2015 she was called home to live with her heavenly father. She was preceded in death by her 5 brothers, Samuel, Willie James, Robert, Argo and Eugene (Mann) 8 sisters, Annie, Gertrude, Adella, Jamie, Edna, Frankie, Lucy Ree, Marjorie.


She received her elementary and secondary education from Lamson Richardson School in Marshallville, Georgia. At an early age she committed her life to Christ at St. James C.M.E. Church in Marshallville, Georgia. She enlisted in the Women's Army Corps in 1943. During World War II her duty stations included Ft. Desmoines, Iowa (training), Ft. Dick, New Jersey, Camp Forest, Tennessee, and Ft. Bragg, South Carolina. Following her discharge from the army she enrolled in Fort Valley State College where she received a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. Shortly after graduation, she began her teaching career in the Bleckley County School System. In 1957 she married Roy J. McDougald and moved to Hartford Connecticut. To this union one son was born.


She taught in the Hartford Public Schools for 30 years. She became a member of Faith Congregational Church where she remained a faithful and active member, serving on the Usher Board, and the Deaconess Board she was awarded the honor of Deaconess Emeritus. Dorothy also served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and a Pack Leader for the Boy Scouts. Her love for Christ and Bible Study led her to enroll in St. Thomas Seminary where she graduated and received the Seminary Ministries Certificate. She was active in the Hartford Chapter of the Fort Valley State College Alumni Association and Prince Hall Order of the Eastern Stars and a Life Member of the National Association of Negro & Professional Women's Club Inc. In 2008 she published "Prayers from the Heart." Her warm and giving spirit touched the lives of so many people.


She leaves to cherish her memory, her son Vernon Roy McDougald (Barbara) five grandchildren Vladi, Malachi, Dorothy, Jamella and Niquana, all from Richmond, Virginia, her sister Caura Felton Johnson from Chicago, Illinois, and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, five Godchildren, Keyanna McDonald, Jamarland Felton, Danesia Ridley, Marquez Grant, Raphael Ridley and many sorrowing friends in Georgia and Connecticut.
