Elizabeth Williams Brinson of Fort Valley, Georgia, passed in Atlanta, GA on Wednesday, November23, 2016, at the age of 94 after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Mr. PhelpsJ.Brinson of Camp John Hope and her daughter Linda Susan Brinson Freeman of Riverdale, GA.
Mrs. Brinson was born on March 13, 1922, in Swainsboro, Georgia, the daughter of Harry and Theodosha Williams. Shemarried Phelps Brinson in 1943 while he was serving in the Army during World War II. After the war, they moved to Tuskegee, AL where Phelps got a degree in agriculture. In 1950 they moved to Fort Valley, GA where Phelps was employed as camp manager at Camp John Hope. When her youngest child entered school, Elizabeth returned to college andgraduated from Fort Valley State College with a degree in education. After graduation she worked in the college library and decided that she wanted to have a career as a college librarian. With her husband taking care of the children still at home, she attended Atlanta University andreceived her Master's degree in Library Science. Shereturned toFort Valley State Collegeafter graduation and served as a librarianfor more than 30 years.
After her husband retired, they built a home on ten acres between Fort Valley and Camp John Hope. Mr. Brinson died in 2004, and she continued living at home until 2013 when declining health required a move to Arbor Terrace in Atlanta.
Mrs. Brinson was a kind and gracious woman who lovedher family, home, church,books, gardening and her many friends in the Fort Valley area.With a smile and a kind word, she spread God's love in the best way there is, with a gentle spirit and a generous heart. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church for more than 60 years.
She leaves to celebrate her life her family: son Lenard Brinson and his wife, Martha of Asheville, NC and their sons Christopher of Minneapolis, MN, and Edward and his wife Sherae of Phoenix, AZ; son James Brinson of Fort Valley and daughter Gail Larkin and her husband Ron and daughters Sierra and Savannah of Lilburn, GA and his daughter Chelsea Brinson and her son Cameron of Atlanta, GA; son Kenneth and his wife Cloteele and their children Olivia, Bianca, and Jonathan of Austin, TX; daughter Patricia Costen and her husband Ralph and their children Reagan and Mallory and her husband Karim Bacchus and son Pierce of Atlanta, GA; and grandson Anthony Freeman and his son Anthony Jr. of Atlanta, GA.
