Marshallville, GA - Funeral services for&Mrs. Gertrude J. Mitchell will be held onSaturday, December 12, 2015 in the sanctuary of the Springhill Baptist Church of Marshallville, GA. Burial will follow in the Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Gertrude (Gertie) Jackson was born to the late Bojay Brown and the late Vivie Jackson on April 20, 1922 in Marshallville, Georgia. Upon the death of her mother when she was an infant, her aunt Fanny Jackson raised her as her own.
She worked a variety of domestic work. However her passion was helping other; she has helped many families in the Marshallville Community care for their loved ones as well as taking in many of her own family members.
Gertie was baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit June of 1962 at the Springhill Missionary Baptist Church. There she worked as an Usher and in the Food Ministry.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Walton and two sons, James Jackson and Richard Jackson.Early Saturday Morning, December 5, 2015 Gertie went to be with her Lord and Savior.She gave her children a legacy whose heritage is faithful, loving, united, strong but most of all God fearing.
Her Children:
Mary Williams (George), Louis Walton, Bennie Mae Jackson, Lucinda Jones (Jessie), Buster Jackson (Catherine), Charles Walton, Willie Jackson (Alma), John Walton (Rhonda), Billy Jackson, Alice Harris and Lonnie Jackson will cherish her memories; John L. Walton, Doris McGhee, Annie Ruth Tookes (Jerome) and Kenny Walton (Xandi) affectionately called her "Mamma" after the death of their mother (Betty); Gertie was adored by all of her grandchildren: 33 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-grandchildren; host of loving relatives and friends including a caring friend, Betty Cooper.
