Obituary

Marshallville, GA - Funeral services for&Mr. Lawrence McGhee (60), affectionately known as "Terry" will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2015 at St. James CME Church in Marshallville, GA at 1:00 PM,where theRev. Billy Heard is the pastor. The Rev. Victor Johnson will deliver the eulogy.Burial will follow at the Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery in Marshallville, Ga.


Lawrence McGhee, Sr. affectionately called "Big Terry" and Pa-Pa was the fourth child of the late Bank McGhee and Evelyn Felton McGhee born October 25, 1955 in Macon County, Georgia. Being reared in a Christian home, Terry joined Springhill Baptist Church at a young age and continued to worship there.


He attended the public schools of Macon County where he graduate from D.F. Douglass in 1973. Terry matriculated at Fort Valley State College for period of time.


Terry worked at the Bibb Company earlier in life and lastly at Blue Bird Body Company for 33 years; retiring shortly after the death of his mother "Dear" (2011). He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby (2013) and Larry (2014); a granddaughter, Jaslyn (2008) his father, Bank (2010).


Terry was a very low keyed individual with a heart of gold and a Master by trade in plumbing, electrical, and automotive repairs. He was a member of Marshallville Masonic Lodge # 297 and Turner Chapel Order of Eastern Star # 270. Terry was also a member of Cool Running Riders – Macon, Georgia and he truly enjoyed the free spirit of riding his motorcycle. Terry' love for the class of 1973 was shown through his involvement in helping organizing the D.F. Douglass and Macon County High combined Class of 1973 Reunion. His beliefs in paying forward lead him to join the elite circle of the Marshallville Senior Citizens. The core of every man is the heart of his family and this was no exception with Terry.


He leaves to cherish his loving memories and his peculiar laugh: a companion of 43 years, Myrtice Mitchell of Marshallville, GA; three devoted children: Nikki L. McGhee of Byron, GA, Carlos Hankerson of Dahlonega, GA and Lawrence T. McGhee, Jr. of Marshallville, GA; five devoted sisters: Frances (Jimmie) Caldwell of Marshallville, GA, Dr. Marion (Timothy) Ford of Perry, GA, Tony McGhee of York, PA and Florence (Robert) Allen of Macon, GA, Imogene Barner, Joyce Askew, Vertis Fuller both of Marshallville, GA,; seven brothers: T.J. Barner and Herbert Barner both of Marshallville, GA, Roger, Hamp and James T. (Bertha) Barner of Miami, FL, Robert T. (Betty) Barner of Fort Myers, FL and Claude (Edith) Barner of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters-in-law, Yvonne McGhee of Forsyth, GA and Joanne Hawk of Orlando, FL; ten grandchildren of which two very devoted granddaughters: Kamry and Katerriyon McGhee; one aunt, aunt, Ruth Battle of Miami, FL; a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews, and many sorrowing friends including close and devoted friends: Aaron Watkins, Frederick Hill, George Hill, Dexter Williams, Bennie Douglas and Jerry Walker.
