Obituary

Marshallville, Georgia-& Funeral service for Mrs. Louise K. Oglesby of 312 Cotton Avenueof Marshallville will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 1:00 PM in the sanctuary of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Colonel Felton Cemetery.

On Friday, September 10, 1926, Louise "Our Moma" Kendrick Oglesby was born to the late Sammie Lee Kendrick and Nellie Davis Kendrick Worthy of Houston County, Georgia. She attended the public schools of Houston County. At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined the Davis Chapel AME Church in Houston County. Being true to the church covenant, after her marriage, she joined the band of believers at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Marshallville where she was a dedicated soldier. Mother Oglesby served in many capacities while at Mount Calvary. Everywhere you looked in the church, she could be found. She served on the Usher Board, Church Secretary, Choir, Kitchen, Pastor's Aide, Deaconess, Mother of the Church and even the Housekeeper (no job was too small in the house of the Lord).

In August 1941, she entered into holy matrimony to Mr. Harvey Lee Oglesby, Sr. This union was blessed with six children. Four of her children (Baby girl Oglesby, Harvey Mae Oglesby, Willie Ben Oglesby and Harvey Lee Oglesby, Jr.) and her dear husband (Harvey Lee Oglesby, Sr.) preceded her in death. At the time of Deacon Oglesby's passing on December 1, 2008, they had shared 67 years of marriage.

Mother Oglesby was a hard"working woman. She was known to be a fabulous cook, retiring from both the historic Lamson"Richardson Elementary School dietary department and Blue Bird's S&S Cafeteria as a baker. She loved to cook, but she also enjoyed a day on the fish creek, planting and harvesting her vegetable garden, singing in the choir, and keeping her home spotless. She often told the story of how she and the late Sister Catherine Smith organized two on"going events at Mount Calvary: Christmas in February and The Old" Fashioned Come As You Are day.Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Reverend Joe Richard (Marion) Oglesby and Deacon Edward (Gloria) Oglesby both of Marshallville. A daughter"in law: Mrs. Florence Oglesby of Marshallville. Siblings: Mrs. Pearlie Washington, Mr Mitchell (Della) Worthy, and Mr. Sam (Susie) Kendrick of Henderson, Ga and Mr. Butlar (Reatha) Kendrick of Savannah, GA. Sister"in"laws: Mrs. Rosa Mae Kendrick of Henderson, GA and Ms Georgia Mae Moody of Canton, OH. Willie Lee Kendrick, Francis and Willie Henry Scott and Arthur Worthy preceded her in death.

Her seven grandsons are her honorary pallbearers today: Melvin (Juanita) Phelps, Shawn Martin, Trelvis Fields, Dwayne (Erica) Hooten, Torrance Haslem, Joe R. (Felicia) Oglesby, Jr and Jeremy Oglesby. As a mother who lost both her daughters at an early age, her granddaughters (Predita (Stevie) Howard, Latonya (Vince) Bullard, Michelle Fields and Kawana Harrell) brought an extra sparkle to her eye. Those ten grandchildren are the parents of her 18 great"grandchildren and one great"great grandchild. A second great"great grandchild is on the way. There are numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends. Although there are countless friends, we want to show special recognition to a few, namely: Mary Paster Bonner, Earlene Felton, Carolyn Rice and Jametta White.

We are eternally grateful to the Hospice Care Unit at the Perry Hospital. Their service to "Our Moma" and the family was exemplary and cannot go unnoticed. We also want to thank Marshallville's Community Choir and the ushers from St James and Bethel Baptist Church for helping to make this Homegoing Service a Celebration of life. Pastor Victor and First Lady Deborah Johnson, Mount Calvary Baptist and the entire Marshallville Community, she loved you and we thank you.
