Mother Lillie Snead of 306 Calhoun Street, Fort Valley, Georgia died Thursday, May 16, 2024, in Marshallville, Georgia.

Mrs. Lillie Mae McGhee Snead, age 92, and a beloved mother of eight
children, transitioned from labor to reward while a patient at Oaks
Nursing and Personal Care Home on May 16, 2024. Mrs. Sue or "Sue"
as she was affectionately called, will be long remembered for her
dedication to family and friends and her passion for cooking; always
offering any and everyone a plate of food. You could always find Mrs.
Sue sitting on her front porch. In her spare time, you could find her
fishing with her favorite girls, Mrs. Willie Mae Clark and Mrs. Louise
Little.
Born January 8, 1932, to the late Robert Vance and Ada Mae McGhee in
Americus, Sumter County, Georgia. Lillie was one of ten siblings, all of
whom preceded her in death. She attended school in Sumter County
until obtaining employment at the Fort Valley Truck Stop where she
worked as a cook for many years. She also worked for Evans
Farm/Investment Company and was an in-home nanny for Chop Evans
for many years.
At an early age, Mrs. Snead professed Christ as her personal Savior and
joined Fairview CME Church and remained a faithful member until
moving her membership to Shiloh Baptist Church. There, she served on
the Usher Board, sang in the Senior Choir and in any other capacity
needed.
On February 05, 1949, she joined Mr. Sylvanus Snead in holy
matrimony. They celebrated 61 years of marriage before his passing in
2010. To this union eight children were born, four of whom preceded
them in death: Walter B Snead, Ozzie M. Banks (Hollis Sr.), Tureda V.
Bennett (Rulah Sr.), and Marsha A. Bennett (Herman, Sr.).
Mrs. Snead was preceded in death by her siblings and in-laws: Brothers:
Freddie L. McGhee, John W. McGhee, Willie James McGhee, Eddie
McGhee, and George McGhee. Sisters: Bessie McGhee, Cora McGhee,

Rosa McKenzie, Mattie Walker, and Clara McGhee Rich. Father and
mother-in-law: Tommy and Lillie M. Duncan Snead. Sister-in-laws:
Minnie P. Snead, Eva Williams, Elizabeth Snead, Ozzie Milner, Edith
McGhee, Willie M. McGhee, and Rosa L. McGhee. Brother-in-laws:
George T. Snead, Julius Snead, Eddie Snead, John Williams, and James
Walker.
She leaves to cherish her memories four children: Lillian Snead, Elaine
Snead (Ronnie), Brenda Battle (Earnest), and Willie J. Snead (Betty) all
of Fort Valley, GA. Four grandchildren that she reared as her own: Rulah
Bennett, Jr., Jeffery Snead, Clifford Snead, and Lamont Adams. Five
dedicated nieces: Shirley Hollis, Everlyn Smith, Teresa Ezell Jones,
Freddie Mae Harris, and Cassandra Ned Towns (great niece). Over sixty
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, and
numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
